The arts and entertainment venue scrapped plans to create a rooftop restaurant – opting instead to create a rooftop studio space.
Glasgow arts and entertainment venue SWG3 plans to create ‘rooftop workspace studios’ above the venue, after dropping plans for a restaurant.
Permission had already been granted for a rooftop restaurant at 100 Eastvale Place, but the company has now asked the council to change the plans. They want to offer a “variety of studios, social spaces and amenity spaces of varying sizes in a rooftop extension”. These would “respond to growing interest in being part of SWG3’s single campus ‘family’,” the request states.
The project is part of an ongoing investment program that was triggered by SWG3’s purchase of land surrounding the existing complex. SWG3 hosts a range of indoor and outdoor music and arts events as well as cultural and political gatherings, such as the New York Times Climate Hub during COP26.
The plans put forward by SWG3 say: “The aim of the proposals is to complement and improve the existing offer of SWG3, with particular emphasis on promoting SWG3 as a day destination with the provision of accommodation in a quality studio and an open space”.
Plans submitted to council claim the venue is “an integral part of the growing commercial and creative community of Eastvale Place, which contributes to the wider regeneration of Yorkhill and Finnieston”.
The plans also state: “Alongside their economic contribution to the city, SWG3 play an important role in supporting the creative industries sector and SWG3 is a vital part of Scotland’s arts and music industry ecosystem; a place where artists perform and talent thrives.
The extension would include 14 individual studios of various sizes, a shared meeting room, a common relaxation area and a shared kitchen area. There would be an exterior walkway with “panoramic views of Glasgow and the Clyde” and new stairs, connecting the studios to a recently completed garden terrace.
The designs show a “serrated roof” which is meant to evoke “the industrial past from which the entire SWG3 campus was born.” SWG3 wants to promote the ethos of the “circular economy”, which encourages reuse, repair and recycling.
The plans continue: “The master plan aims to create a ‘campus’ community, where the various interventions interact with each other”, adds the application.
“This approach is something they hope to develop further with occupants likely to use the different spaces, in line with their circular economy goals. The proposed rooftop studios hope to promote the circular economy within the SWG3 campus, hoping to provide studio space for new start-ups or current occupants looking to expand.
“The studio nature of the spaces would seek to encourage different companies and individuals to exchange knowledge and ideas, creating a circular method for business development.”
There would also be an environmental aspect, with potential rainwater harvesting to water the gardens and photovoltaic panels to generate electricity for the campus.

Roanoke blacksmith takes the honor
Garden and Gun and its partner Explore Asheville announced the winners of the magazine’s thirteenth annual Made in the South Awards, celebrating products made in the South in six categories: Home, Food, Beverage, Craft, Style and Outdoors.
Heart & Spade Forge, based in Roanoke, received the honor of first place in the Home category for its carbon steel cookware.
“Being recognized by your peers on the national stage is amazing,” said founder and blacksmith Jed Curtis. “My life’s obsession is metal. Each piece requires approximately 16 hours of manual labor, plus 25 years of experience at the anvil, to create. It’s a privilege to forge heirlooms for families, placing Heart & Spade – and Roanoke – at the center of their traditions.
Curtis bought his first anvil when he was just 5 years old, built his first shop at 15, and met his mentor, New York blacksmith Mitch Fitzgibbons, soon after. After earning his bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Roanoke College, Curtis opened his shop in 2016. Since then, his carbon steel cookware has found its way into kitchens and restaurants around the world. Heart & Spade has been featured nationally in publications such as Taste of the South, The local palace and Okra. Curtis has also collaborated with professional chefs to perfect his cookware.

The Mongtomery museum to mix art and psychology
The Montgomery Museum of Art and History is trying something brand new – offering self-help mental health tactics and strategies using art exhibits, materials and spaces as helpful tools . This four-part interactive series called “The Art of Happiness” will focus on aspects of positive psychology and the role art can play in our overall happiness and well-being. This series of programs will take place at the Montgomery Museum on the third Thursday of each month, December through March, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The museum will remain open late on these dates to allow attendees to view all of the museum’s exhibits and spaces. As the number of places is limited, early registration is encouraged.
“The goal of this new series of programs is to highlight and raise awareness of mental health and accessibility issues while simultaneously offering unique methods and strategies for dealing with things like stress, anxiety and depression,” said Casey Jenkins, executive director of the Montgomery Museum. in a report.
Sessions will be led by Shelby Wynn, a licensed art therapist and licensed professional counselor in the Carilion Clinic’s Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine. The first session on December 15 will explore the ability to face the words; an understanding of thoughts and emotions. The second session on January 19 will feature visual music by abstract design. The third session on February 16 will facilitate mindfulness and meditation by carving. The final session on March 16 will focus on Zentangle and the ability to practice mindfulness when other coping skills are inaccessible.
“I’m so excited to partner with the Montgomery Museum for the next few months. Art is such an integral part of mental health – whether it’s fine art, movement, or music – and it’s inspiring that an organization like the museum finds it important to bridge the gap in mental health awareness,” Wynn said. “I’m honored to be a part of something so innovative.”
All materials will be provided by the museum and no artistic experience is required. This is not an outpatient group therapy session, but rather a free self-help community building experience. MANILA — Debuting during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic in late 2020 hasn’t stopped South Korean boy band Drippin from gaining fans, but the health crisis has kept them from meeting supporters in person.
That’s why the pop act consisting of Yunseong, Hyeop, Changuk, Dongyun, Minseo, Junho, and Alex felt elated when they finally came face to face with their fans, called Dreamin, during the extended play promotions. (EP) “Villain: Zero” last June.
“I met my fans for the first time and it was truly amazing. I have always missed them so much and I was so happy to finally meet them in person,” Minseo said in a recent interview with ABS-CBN. News.
It’s been an eventful year for Drippin, who also met overseas fans for the first time when he performed in Thailand last September. The band also expanded their discography with their “Villain” trilogy of albums.
Launched in January with the “Villain” EP, the series saw the band turn to a darker, bolder concept, away from the bright, youthful vibe shown in previous singles like “Young Blood” and “Free Pass. “.
The trilogy incorporated storytelling, with the music videos for singles “Villain” and “Zero” featuring the story of a war between characters called X and DX.
On Tuesday, Drippin unveiled the final chapter of the trilogy through his first full album “Villain: The End.”
The package contains 10 songs, including lead single “The One,” which fuses heavy rock-inspired guitar riffs into the fast-paced drum and bass genre.
Below is Drippin’s interview, which has been edited for brevity and clarity:
Q: What message were you trying to convey through the “Villain” albums and how does “Villain: The End” differ from previous albums?
XANDER: I think through these albums we managed to get the message across that Drippin can go through anything when they’re together. I want to thank everyone who supported our “Villain” trilogy until the end.
The difference between our new album and the previous ones is that it shows the end of the war between X and DX, so I think the K-pop group Drippin on year of many firsts song (“The One”) has a somewhat light atmosphere, unlike the previous two albums.
Q: What were the first reactions from the members when they learned that Drippin was finally going to release a full album?
HYEOP: We were all so excited to release our first full album and it motivated us to try even harder.
Q: Can members share their favorite song from the album except “The One”?
YUNSEONG: I like “Deja Vu” because the sexy vibe of the song really suits me. I’m sure Dreamin will like it too.
CHANGUK: My favorite is “Deja Vu” because it has a cool atmosphere and the melodies are very memorable.
DONGYUN: My favorite is “Silence”. The song is emotional and it’s not only a sentimental song, but it’s also exciting to listen to.
JUNHO: My favorite will always be “Deja Vu”. As soon as I heard it, the lovely melody caught my ears and I think it’s a song that makes my head spin a bit because of its quality.
XANDER: My favorite song is “Champion” because it’s powerful and makes me feel like I can be a champion one day. Moreover, I particularly like my role in the song.
Q: What’s next for Drippin after the “Villain” series?
YUNSEONG: After finishing the “Villain” era, we can come back with different genres of songs with our own interpretation of them.
Q: Last September, you visited Thailand, which was your first overseas program. I’ve seen video clips of fans welcoming Drippin at the airport. How was this experience?
CHANGUK: I was very nervous because it was my first time going overseas as a member of Drippin. However, when I arrived in Thailand, I heard the fans cheering me on and welcoming me. I think I will be able to remember this moment for a long time.
YUNSEONG: When I got off at the airport, I remember the cheers of Thai fans welcoming us. I would like to thank everyone who was at the airport to encourage and support us.
Q: Since we are talking about overseas promotions, can members give specific countries they would like to visit?
HYEOP: There are so many countries I want to visit but I want to play in the United States, where my sister is staying at the moment.
MINSEO: I want to play in the Philippines. I know how much our Dreamin Filipinos miss us so I can’t wait to play for them.
JUNHO: Of course, I want to go to different countries and play, but the country that comes to mind now is Indonesia. I want to play with the energy of the Indonesian fans.
XANDER: I want to play in my home country, Germany.
Q: It’s been two years since Drippin debuted. What do you consider to be your greatest achievement so far and what goal does the band have for the future?
JUNHO: The biggest achievement for us is successfully concluding the “Villain” series. I think I’m attached to it because it’s a project we’ve all worked hard on for a long time. The goal I want to achieve is to win first place [on a music show] with our music.

Ohen Deborah Vinsel, TCMedia CEO, first considered artists to feature in this first year of the “Studio A concert series”, it was only fitting that Scott Cossu be invited. “Scott actually performed at our grand opening for the TCMedia facility 26 years ago,” Deborah recalls, “so he was one of the first performers in the brand new Studio A.”
Ethan Tucker warmed up Scott’s room in September with the first concert of the fundraising series. And now it’s Scott’s turn to take the stage, leading the audience on his own musical journey.
Scott’s chart-topping instrumental works span 20 years, including the singles ‘Gwenlaise’, ‘She Describes Infinity’ and, most recently, his release ‘Memories of Water and Light’, which was recorded during the pandemic. Each time Scott performs, he effortlessly switches from beautiful dreamlike melodies to jazz to rhythmic compositions influenced by world music. He likes to call his style “Heavy Mental” and credits Bach, Beethoven and Pink Floyd as his early inspirations.
“When I write these musical compositions, they just come out. There’s a bit of folk, there’s a bit of classical. Laughing, Scott leans forward: “Okay, maybe I add jazz. Oh, I like blues too, so bluesy. And, oh, yeah, I grew up in Ohio, not too far from Motown, so there’s a bit of rhythm and blues there- I studied with Indian musicians so on this album, okay, I’ll give you Spirals…” Leaning back, Scott shrugs, “So I never tried to fit into a category. , just playing. And I’ve been one of those lucky guys who writes music that’s performed by guys way more famous than me.
When christo, the internationally acclaimed concept artist known for draping fabric over iconic exterior elements, was looking for a musical match to his art, he chose Scott Cossu. “He was rolling up pink fabric on islands in Miami,” Scott recalled with a faint smile, “I went to New York and recorded for the documentary and became known as a contributor to Cannes Film. “
For this performance, Scott will be accompanied by Holly Reeves, principal cellist of the Olympia Symphony. “I’ve been playing with Scott for four years now,” says Holly, “and it’s been exciting. I connect with her music because, well, she kind of calls out the cello. He has a soulful quality,” then, laughing, she adds, “and, I don’t know, it’s really fun to play with him.
Bringing people together with music and media
TCMedia’s “Studio A Concerts” are an exceptional way to see your favorite artist in an intimate and engaging way. “We’re turning the studio into a nightclub setting,” Deborah explains, “and we’re recording the performance for an upcoming release, so the audience is very limited. There is a reception with appetizers and refreshments ahead of time for people to talk and mingle.
“We want to showcase the diverse musical talent that we are blessed to have here in the South Sound,” says Deborah, “it gives us the opportunity to introduce people to TCMedia and raise funds to support our mission during that we record.”
If you know a local artist you would like to see for 2023 Studio A Concerts, please encourage them to submit their material. “As space is limited, we’re mostly interested in acoustic solos or small groups,” says Deborah, “and really all styles of music. We are delighted with the response to the Studio A Concerts and we look forward to the 2023 season.”
Artists should send requests to [email protected] with a link to a video or audio recording.
