Finance and Economic Development Minister Professor Mthuli Ncube said he was setting up a recording studio in Bulawayo aimed at developing the city’s artistic talents.
Professor Ncube said funds had been raised and he was looking for space to host the studio.
“I’m setting up a recording studio in Bulawayo. It’s an arts city and we need to nurture the talent there,” Professor Ncube told Chronicle Showbiz on Monday.
He said the move is a response to young people in the city who approached him to help raise funds for the project.
“The young people of Bulawayo approached me to help them raise funds to set up a recording studio. I accepted and raised funds. I am now looking for a good space to locate it.
“Young people are very anxious and eager to work on it,” he said.
Prof Ncube said there is abundant artistic talent in Bulawayo which needs to be nurtured carefully.
“The studio would be a hub for nurturing talent and we need more of these facilities. It would add value to the arts sector,” he said.
If the studio is successfully set up, it will certainly help promote the Bulawayo artists who continue to emerge as they will have another place to record their works.
Some of the studios operated in Bulawayo include House Rebels Studios (DJ Skaiva), Tizzie Studios (Tinashe Basa), XStudios (Master Zhou), Elephant Records (Godwin Smallz), Rock Up Studios (Nashville), Loud Records (Eratus), TTS Studios (Tarryn Talana), Khulasizwe Studios (CITE), Certified Music Records (Larnyx) and The Cradle (DJ MduSevan).
