It was a little tricky to get there, but a gym in Dunfermline won top prize at Scotland’s Business Awards.
Canmore Street-based Studio-X went through rigorous public voting, professional vetting and a mystery shopper visit to be named the 2022 Best Fitness Business at the national ceremony.
Owner Lisa Gibson, 39, told reporters: “There was a lot of fierce competition, big commercial gyms, it’s quite a difficult process.
“We’re so small, we’ve only been in the business for three years, it was good.
“It’s really great to be back in business after COVID.”
After being closed for nearly two years, Lisa says recognition like this – earlier this year they won the Innovation title at the Scottish Health & Fitness Awards 2022 – motivates her to keep doing what she does. does best: to offer something different and unique to the city.
“We teach aerial classes, aerial classes for kids, birthday parties, adult fitness, aerial silks, aerial hammocks, aerial hoops, bungee fitness, it’s something amazing. ‘unique, there aren’t many,’ she explained.
“It’s really fun while you’re training, that’s all about it.
“It’s getting back on its feet after COVID, we’re just getting back into it because we’ve been restricted for quite a while.
“We’ll look for the next big thing to come and see what we can do! I’m thrilled for our team and our members.”
And, for now, she and instructors Bethany Ferguson and Jen Turner, who have helped Studio-X since it opened in 2019, are focused on continuing classes, which now run in the mornings as well as evenings, and sold- on birthday parties.
“We just try to think of topical themes, which people are interested in at the minute,” Lisa added.
“We started doing matinees which, before the pandemic, I didn’t know if the matinees would be popular, if they would fill up.
“I feel like people maybe have more opportunities to come to a morning class now. It’s been a bit of a change, I would say, in the entire exercise world.
“It used to be that the most popular hour was only six or seven in the evening, but people can access it more now anytime, I think, with working from home.”
