The final races of the NTT IndyCar Series season are upon us, and it’s shaping up to be a great end to the 2022 season. The former championships are looking to gain an edge over each other as they head south from Illinois to compete in the Mommarito Automotive Group 500 at World Wide Technology Raceway.

After a chaotic run in Nashville two weeks ago, the championship picture has become tighter than it has been all season. In the Music City Grand Prix, almost half of the field was knocked out of the race, which kind of opened the door for veteran Scott Dixon, who didn’t have the biggest qualifying session, to clinch his second checkered flag of the season. The win also sees the New Zealander overtake legend Mario Andretti for the second all-time victory (53).

Dixon’s second win on a road course also moved him within 10 points of series leader and compatriot Will Power. If Dixon can somehow rally to catch the former champion, it would mark his record seventh championship, pitting him against the great AJ Foyt.

Driver Chip Ganassi was able to outpace Indianapolis 500 winner Marcus Ericsson, who suffered a mechanical failure that led to a disappointing 14th-place finish in Nashville. A win for the Swede would definitely be the change of momentum he needs if he wants to leap to the top.

Returning to the track previously known as Gateway Motorsports Park, a plethora of current drivers took victory over the 1.25-mile circuit. Josef Newgarden, who currently sits fourth in the standings, has won three there, including each of the last two events. Dixon, Power and Takuma Sato have also won since IndyCar returned to the track after a 14-year hiatus in 2017.
